pacific rain

gargoyle thunderheads eye us with
  haughty indifference
   as our mouths spout streams…
     ritual daily news
centered in the slick grey expanse
of ellsworth and first,
  by boccherini’s
   and monteith river park
suddenly in bloom with snaps of
    bright umbrellas.

watch the jeweler’s iron clock
blush time on a round moon face
    pace slowed
to the lazy lull of an
  inconsequential
    northwest
      river town…
 simplicity surrounds us
with antique globe street lamps
  gently stirred to life;
 hazy, yellow halo rows
of candles in the oregon evening
    window of mist
we slip quietly into our stream
  of familiarity,
    allow pacific rain
to wash daytime’s distance
  away from us
